MEDIA, PA — Delaware County Community College and Keystone STEM Alliance’s BLAST Robotics program are exploring a partnership aimed at expanding workforce development opportunities in advanced manufacturing, skilled trades and STEM education as employers seek more technically trained workers.
Representatives from BLAST Robotics recently visited the college’s Media campus to discuss potential collaboration on technical education programs, workforce initiatives and career pathways linking K-12 students to high-demand industries.
The visit included tours of DCCC’s training facilities for mechatronics, automotive technology, electrical technology, carpentry, plumbing and shipbuilding. The delegation also reviewed the college’s dual enrollment program, which allows high school students to earn college credit while developing technical skills.
The group met with Jennifer Orazi, dean of workforce and economic development; Sherrod Watson, director of advanced technology; and Amy Antrim, director of skilled trades, to discuss the college’s approach to industry-aligned technical education.
Hari Ponugoti, a robotics coach with BLAST Robotics, said exposing students to multiple engineering and technical disciplines better prepares them for changing workforce demands.
“Today’s industries are looking for adaptable talent with multidisciplinary skills,” Ponugoti said. “By combining robotics with exposure to skilled trades, automation, advanced manufacturing, and stackable industry certifications, students gain a deeper understanding of career opportunities and can confidently choose pathways aligned with their interests and the evolving workforce.”
The organizations identified several areas for future collaboration, including STEM workshops, expanded dual enrollment opportunities, career exploration programs, industry-recognized certifications, apprenticeship pathways, workforce development initiatives and joint grant applications.
Keystone STEM Alliance also outlined plans to establish a Maker Studio and Advanced Robotics Fab Lab in Chester County, a project the nonprofit said would provide high school students with hands-on experience in robotics, automation, artificial intelligence, CNC machining, 3D printing, electronics, CAD/CAM and other advanced manufacturing technologies.
The organization said it is seeking support from corporate sponsors, foundations and individual donors to develop the facility, which it expects would strengthen pathways to college, technical certifications, apprenticeships and careers in engineering, manufacturing and the skilled trades.
Keystone STEM Alliance is a Pennsylvania nonprofit that operates the BLAST Robotics program and focuses on robotics, engineering, workforce development and STEM education through partnerships with schools, industry and community organizations.
