HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is expanding real-time traffic monitoring tools and deploying additional roadway equipment across the Philadelphia region as the city prepares to host FIFA World Cup 26 matches, America250PA celebrations, and next year’s MLB All-Star Week, officials announced.

PennDOT launched a dedicated travel information portal, www.511PA.com/PhillyEvents, designed to help drivers navigate anticipated congestion tied to the major events. The page provides real-time traffic conditions, average travel times on primary routes, incident reports, construction updates, traffic camera feeds, and message board information.

The initiative is part of a broader transportation effort aimed at managing the expected influx of visitors while minimizing disruptions for residents, commuters, and businesses throughout the region.

“Hosting these major events in Philadelphia is very exciting, and the department is using every tool possible to minimize roadway congestion and focus on safe travel by providing drivers with as much information as possible,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said. “We encourage the public to use 511PA to plan the route that works best for them — whether they’re traveling to the events or just traveling through the area.”

PennDOT said the portal also includes SEPTA transit information, including service status updates and next departure times, along with travel tips and route-planning resources for event attendees.

To support traffic operations, PennDOT’s Southeast Regional Traffic Management Center will activate 40 additional traffic cameras across the Philadelphia area and deploy 32 additional electronic message boards throughout the event period. The agency will use the equipment to monitor conditions and provide real-time travel information to motorists.

The department is also expanding route-planning capabilities through its “My Routes” feature, allowing users to select event-related destinations and points of interest when mapping trips.

Officials warned that travelers should expect changing traffic patterns, increased pedestrian activity, and periods of slow-moving or stopped traffic throughout the summer and during major event weekends.

PennDOT said it is coordinating traffic management efforts with transportation agencies and government partners in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, as well as the City of Philadelphia, SEPTA, and the Philadelphia Sports Complex.

The announcement follows Gov. Josh Shapiro’s recent unveiling of a multi-year transportation improvement initiative for the Philadelphia Sports Complex and Lower South Philadelphia area, aimed at reducing congestion, improving safety, and increasing mobility ahead of several internationally significant events.

Drivers can access real-time travel information, weather forecasts, delay warnings, traffic speeds, and feeds from more than 1,200 traffic cameras statewide by visiting www.511PA.com. The new event-specific portal is available at www.511PA.com/PhillyEvents.
