PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers using Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia should prepare for overnight lane closures and traffic backups as crews install construction barriers between Christian Street and Packer Avenue.

Lane closures will affect both directions of I-95 throughout the overnight work periods. No detour was announced.
Drivers should plan extra time when traveling through South Philadelphia because backups and delays are expected. Seek alternate routes when practical and remain alert for crews, construction vehicles and changing traffic patterns.
The schedule is weather dependent and may change if conditions are unfavorable.
The restrictions are part of a $60.4 million federally funded project addressing high-priority repairs on interstate bridges across the Philadelphia region.
Crews will repair deteriorated bridge decks, structural steel, concrete beams, bridge railings, guiderail and steel sign supports. The project also includes work on expansion joints, bridge bearings, concrete substructures and other structural components.
Additional improvements include cleaning and repainting overhead steel sign structures and upgrading roadway lighting with LED fixtures.
IEW Construction Group Inc. of Hamilton, New Jersey, is the general contractor.
