MALVERN, PA — Vanguard Charitable has named Heather Templeton Dill as the newest member of its Board of Trustees, marking a significant leadership addition to the philanthropic organization. Dill, the former president and CEO of the John Templeton Foundation, brings decades of experience in strategic giving and nonprofit governance to the $22 billion donor-advised fund provider.
Dill assumes the role following the departure of Mike Holland, an inaugural trustee who served on the board for 28 years. Holland’s tenure helped guide Vanguard Charitable through sustained growth, positioning it among the largest grantmaking organizations in the nation, with more than 30,000 donors and an expanding impact footprint.
Dill’s appointment comes on the heels of her nearly decade-long leadership of the John Templeton Foundation, where she oversaw a 25% increase in assets and led annual grantmaking to $135 million. She is widely recognized for shaping the Foundation’s five-year strategy and launching transformative initiatives in emerging disciplines—all while upholding the legacy of her grandfather, the late Sir John Templeton.
Currently, Dill serves as interim director of the Templeton Prize, one of the world’s largest individual awards recognizing achievements at the intersection of science, philosophy, and spiritual inquiry. She also holds board positions at First Trust Bank and the Templeton World Charity Foundation, and serves on the steering committee of the Templeton Religion Trust. In her local community, she contributes to the Church of the Good Samaritan in Paoli as a vestry member.
“I’m pleased to join the Vanguard Charitable board and an organization that is driving impact at a tremendous scale,” Dill stated. “Donor-advised funds are at the forefront of grantmaking, and I look forward to working with my peers on the board and the broader team to promote and advance charitable giving.”
Rebecca Moffett, president of Vanguard Charitable, welcomed Dill’s appointment while acknowledging Holland’s long-standing service. “Heather brings passion and deep expertise in the role of a grant maker,” Moffett said. “I also extend my sincere gratitude to Mike Holland, someone who has been instrumental in our expansion and organizational integrity for almost three decades.”
With Dill’s strategic insight and philanthropic leadership, Vanguard Charitable signals its continued focus on scaling impact, fostering donor engagement, and navigating the evolving landscape of charitable giving.
