# Chestnut Hill Fall for the Arts Festival Brings 300-Plus Artists to the Avenue PHILADELPHIA, PA — Germantown Avenue will become a sprawling open-air gallery this September as more than 300 artists and vendors fill Chestnut Hill with paintings, pottery, sculpture, photography, live demonstrations and hands-on creativity. The 42nd annual Fall for the Arts Festival returns Sept. 27, bringing six hours of art, entertainment and family activities to a neighborhood where galleries and cultural institutions have been part of the community for generations. The free festival gives visitors a chance not only to browse finished pieces but also to meet the people who make them. Painting, photography, sculpture, pottery, jewelry and woodworking are among the disciplines represented by participating artists and makers. Makers Village will put some of that creative process on display through live demonstrations, while workshops and interactive art experiences will invite festivalgoers to try their own hand at creating. Special arts programming will be available for children and families. Live music and other entertainment will continue throughout the day, and visitors can move between festival attractions and Chestnut Hill's independent galleries, shops and restaurants along the Avenue. ## Event Details * **What:** 42nd Annual Fall for the Arts Festival * **When:** Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; rain date Sunday, Oct. 11 * **Where:** Germantown Avenue, Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia, PA * **Cost/Tickets:** Free; family-friendly * **More Info:** https://chestnuthillpa.com/ ## An Arts Tradition More Than a Century Old The scale of Fall for the Arts may be temporary, but the neighborhood's connection to artists is not. One of its anchors is Woodmere, whose history dates to 1910, when collector and civic leader Charles Knox Smith began welcoming visitors to see his art collection. Today, the museum occupies two historic 19th-century stone mansions on 10 acres and holds a collection of more than 11,000 works focused on Philadelphia's artists and artistic history. Woodmere expanded again in 2025 with the opening of Frances M. Maguire Hall for Art & Education, adding 14 galleries, a children's art and education studio and new public spaces. That creative footprint extends along Germantown Avenue through NoName Gallery, Gallery on the Avenue, The Little Gallery, Borrelli's Chestnut Hill Gallery and Gravers Lane Gallery, which showcase work by local, regional and national artists. The neighborhood also celebrates that culture monthly through Arts & Eats First Fridays, when galleries stay open after hours for exhibitions and installations and the Avenue hosts demonstrations, lectures and live music alongside participating restaurants and retailers. Fall for the Arts takes that year-round creative culture and moves it into the street on a much larger scale. For one Sunday, visitors can walk Germantown Avenue meeting artists, watching makers at work, trying something creative themselves and discovering the galleries and cultural spaces that keep the arts woven into Chestnut Hill long after the festival tents come down.
