WEST CHESTER, PA — The YMCA of Greater Brandywine celebrated the impact of 5,859 volunteers who contributed nearly 70,000 hours of service during its annual Celebration of Service, recognizing individuals and organizations who helped strengthen communities across Chester County.
Held April 15 at Penn Oaks Golf Club, the organization’s largest volunteer recognition event brought together leaders, staff, and supporters for an evening of appreciation and reflection. The atmosphere was celebratory and inspiring, as attendees honored the collective efforts that support youth programs, community health, and social services throughout the region.
Over the past year, volunteers logged 69,897 hours of service, helping the YMCA provide programs and resources to nearly 112,000 people. The event also highlighted $2.8 million in financial assistance awarded in 2025 to ensure access to childcare, summer camps, and other essential services.
Several individuals and organizations were recognized for their exceptional contributions. The Jones Family received the Service to Youth Award, honoring their long-standing dedication to supporting young people, including the legacy of Bob Jones and the scholarship program he established. Bentley Systems earned the Community Partner Award for expanding adaptive fitness opportunities and supporting STEM programs for local youth.
Steve Holman and Atul Malhotra were presented with the CEO’s Award for their leadership in guiding the YMCA’s strategic planning efforts, while Leo and Maryanne Parsons received the Distinguished Service Award for more than three decades of volunteer leadership and community impact.
In addition, 22 individuals from YMCA branches across the region were named Volunteers of the Year, representing contributions in youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
“Volunteerism begins with a simple yes – and it quickly becomes part of who we are,” said Scott Heinerichs, board chair and chief volunteer officer for the YMCA of Greater Brandywine.
YMCA leaders credited the success of their programs to the thousands of volunteers, community partners, and donors who support the organization’s mission. Sponsors, board members, and local partners were also recognized for their continued commitment to strengthening communities across Chester County.
With nearly 70,000 hours of service celebrated and continued investment in community programs, YMCA leaders say the organization will build on this momentum as it looks ahead to another year of volunteer-driven impact.
