WEST BRANDYWINE, PA — Freedom Village at Brandywine recently marked a milestone with its third annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a pivotal event that underscores the community’s commitment to fighting a disease that affects millions worldwide. This year’s event saw the community raise over $3,700, a testament to the dedication and generosity of its participants and supporters.

The motivation behind hosting their own walk stems from the understanding that many residents and staff, despite their eagerness to support the Alzheimer’s Association, face challenges such as transportation and mobility issues. By organizing an accessible local event, Freedom Village has established a cherished tradition, eagerly anticipated each year by its community members.

The journey of fundraising commenced on August 27, 2024, with an ice cream sundae bar that set the tone for a series of successful initiatives. These included a variety of engaging activities such as a t-shirt sale, a 50/50 raffle, a donut sale, a ‘Casual for a Cause’ day, and a homemade soup sale. These events culminated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 4, 2024, which united residents, staff, and regional supporters in a shared mission to combat this devastating condition.

Mary Main, Sales and Marketing Director at Freedom Village, expressed the community’s heartfelt commitment: “Alzheimer’s is an issue close to the hearts of many in our community. Our residents and staff are deeply committed to raising awareness and supporting the cause. Hosting this walk for the third year has been a privilege, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come.”

The proceeds from this year’s walk will directly support the Alzheimer’s Association, aiding vital care and support services for individuals battling Alzheimer’s disease. Moreover, the funds will contribute to critical research efforts aimed at advancing treatment options and, ultimately, finding a cure.

Events like the Walk to End Alzheimer’s play a crucial role in not only raising much-needed financial support but also in heightening public awareness about the disease. They serve as a platform for communities to come together, share experiences, and reinforce their commitment to those affected by Alzheimer’s. By fostering such communal spirit and support, events like these pave the way for meaningful progress in the ongoing fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
