NEWARK, DE — On May 3, 2025, the Newark Police Department responded to two separate incidents involving allegations of driving under the influence, resulting in the arrests of two individuals and injuries to three officers.
Incident 1
At 4:03 a.m., police stopped a vehicle on West Chestnut Hill Road after observing multiple traffic violations. The driver, identified as Jacob Rahme, 23, of Wilmington, was subjected to Field Sobriety Tests. Officers determined there was enough evidence to arrest Rahme for DUI. However, Rahme allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted two officers, causing injuries before being detained.
Rahme faces charges including DUI, two counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and several traffic violations. He was arraigned and released on $7,574 unsecured bail.
Incident 2
Later that evening, at 11:37 p.m., officers responded to a welfare check at a drive-through on South College Avenue. They found a man, identified as Nicholas Dionisi, 37, of Newark, asleep in an idling vehicle. After evaluating signs of impairment, officers attempted to arrest Dionisi, who allegedly resisted, leading to an officer being injured.
Dionisi was charged with third-offense DUI, second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest. He was arraigned and held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $5,500 cash bond.
Both cases remain under investigation. It is important to note that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
