TOWNSEND, DE — A Newark man faces multiple felony drug charges after Delaware State Police said a months-long investigation led to the seizure of suspected cocaine, heroin and drug proceeds from his vehicle.
According to Delaware State Police, the investigation began in June after troopers received information alleging that 31-year-old Wilkin Dejesus-Perez was distributing narcotics in Townsend.
Detectives with the Delaware State Police Special Investigations Unit assumed responsibility for the case and determined that Dejesus-Perez was allegedly selling drugs from a Honda Accord, police said.
At approximately 11 a.m. July 29, investigators spotted the Accord at a convenience store in the 4200 block of DuPont Parkway, according to state police. Detectives conducted a traffic stop and took Dejesus-Perez into custody without incident.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, police reported recovering approximately 34 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 2.8 grams of suspected cocaine and 6.8 grams of suspected heroin. Investigators also allegedly found a fraudulent Delaware identification card, drug paraphernalia and more than $2,200 believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Dejesus-Perez was charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, two felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, one felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, second-degree forgery and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to state police, Dejesus-Perez was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Delaware Department of Correction after bail was set at $84,200 cash.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
