Violent Philly Robbery Suspect Captured After Manhunt

Arrested

HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced the arrest of a Philadelphia man accused in a violent armed robbery last month at a North Philadelphia convenience store that investigators say left a customer injured.

According to the Office of Attorney General, 27-year-old Kashon A. Smith was arrested Thursday in Montgomery County by members of the Attorney General’s Philadelphia Gun Violence Task Force, along with the Norristown Police Department, Montgomery County Detectives Bureau, and Pennsylvania Department of Corrections FAST unit.

Investigators alleged Smith robbed Zay’s Convenience Store in the 2900 block of Ridge Avenue on April 18 while he was on parole.

According to authorities, surveillance video from the incident allegedly shows Smith striking a customer multiple times with a handgun and discharging the weapon inside the store during the robbery.

Smith was arraigned early Friday morning on aggravated assault, robbery, and related charges, investigators reported. Bail was set at $350,000, and authorities said Smith is also being held on a parole detainer.

In a separate robbery investigation, authorities announced charges against Kamel Cross, 18, and 22-year-old Symir McCoy.

According to investigators, Cross and McCoy allegedly used multiple firearms, including a handgun and an assault-style rifle, to threaten and assault a victim before stealing cash and a watch during an incident that was later circulated on social media.

Authorities reported investigators later learned through social media that McCoy allegedly was hosting a “4/20 party” at an Airbnb rental in Philadelphia.

Authorities also reported Donte Trent was arrested at the Airbnb gathering and charged with felony firearms and drug-related offenses.

The cases will be prosecuted by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
