WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have charged a city man in connection with a carjacking and multiple armed robberies investigated across Wilmington earlier this month.
According to police, officers responded between May 11 and May 12 to a reported carjacking in the 2700 block of North Market Street and four separate armed robberies in the 100 block of Vandever Avenue, the 2400 block of Northeast Boulevard, and the 3500 block of North Market Street.
Investigators said the cases were assigned to Detective Johnnie Everett and Detective Michael Hayman of the Criminal Investigations Division.
Through the investigation, detectives identified 57-year-old Michael Reynolds as the suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest, according to police.
On May 13, officers located Reynolds allegedly residing in a vacant property in the unit block of East 30th Street, investigators reported.
Police said officers attempted to contact Reynolds, who allegedly fled deeper inside the vacant property and barricaded himself. A short time later, Reynolds allegedly attempted to flee and was taken into custody without further incident, according to investigators.
Police reported Reynolds was charged with the following offenses in addition to outstanding warrants from Delaware State Police and New Castle County Police:
- Robbery in the first degree — four counts
- Possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony — four counts
- Carrying a concealed deadly weapon — three counts
- Theft under $1,500 involving a victim age 62 or older
According to police, Reynolds was arraigned in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $980,000 cash-only bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
