String of Break-Ins Hits West Side Businesses, Police Say

WILMINGTON, DE — Police are investigating a series of commercial burglaries and attempted break-ins targeting businesses on the city’s west side and are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible.

According to Wilmington police, officers responded to 11 burglary or attempted burglary incidents between April 5 and April 27, all occurring in neighborhoods west of Interstate 95.

Investigators reported that burglary incidents were documented at multiple locations, including the 300 block of North Union Street; 1800 block of Lancaster Avenue; 1000 block of West 4th Street, where several incidents occurred over a span of hours; 1400 block of Lancaster Avenue, which experienced two incidents days apart; 1800 block of West 3rd Street; 1700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue; 1600 block of Gilpin Avenue; 1700 block of Augustine Cutoff; and the 1300 block of North Union Street, where two incidents were reported about 10 days apart.

Police said attempted burglaries were also reported at locations in the 100 block of North Lincoln Street and the 400 block of North DuPont Street.

According to investigators, the cases have been assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division, which is working to determine whether the incidents are connected and to identify those involved.
