WILMINGTON, DE — Three juveniles were taken into custody after a police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle, and one of the suspects was also charged in connection with a shots-fired investigation dating back to September, according to Wilmington Police.
Police reported that members of the department’s Gun Intelligence Unit had been investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred Sept. 13 in the 400 block of West 29th Street. Investigators said no injuries were reported in that incident. According to police, detectives identified a 14-year-old male juvenile as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.
On May 31 at approximately 3:38 a.m., officers with the Uniformed Services Division observed a reportedly stolen vehicle near East 15th and North French streets, police said. Investigators alleged that the driver failed to stop, leading officers on a brief pursuit before the vehicle crashed in the 1700 block of North Church Street.
According to police, three male juveniles fled from the vehicle on foot following the crash. Officers later located all three juveniles and took them into custody without further incident. Police said two loaded 9mm handguns were recovered during the investigation.
The first 14-year-old male juvenile was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, first-degree reckless endangering, receiving stolen property valued at more than $1,500, second-degree conspiracy, and resisting arrest. Police said the juvenile also had outstanding warrants from Wilmington Police, Delaware State Police, and New Castle County Police. He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $48,000 cash-only bail.
A 16-year-old male juvenile was charged with receiving stolen property valued at more than $1,500, second-degree conspiracy, and resisting arrest. According to police, he also had an outstanding warrant from New Castle County Police. Court records show he was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Police said a second 14-year-old male juvenile was processed on an outstanding warrant from New Castle County Police. He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $4,000 cash-only bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
