Speeding Crash Turns Deadly After Violent Rear-End Collision

WILMINGTON, DE — A 26-year-old man was killed in a high-speed two-vehicle crash Thursday night, according to Delaware State Police.

Police reported that at approximately 10:20 p.m. on April 23, troopers responded to Powder Mill Road near Alapocas Drive for a report of a crash.

According to investigators, a Saturn SC2 was traveling southbound in the right lane when a Dodge Charger approached from behind at an alleged speed exceeding 120 miles per hour. Police said the front of the Dodge struck the rear of the Saturn, causing the vehicle to spin and crash into a guardrail.

Authorities reported that after the initial collision, the Dodge continued forward, crossed into the northbound lanes, and struck a tree.

Police said the driver of the Dodge, a 26-year-old Wilmington man who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.

According to investigators, the 27-year-old driver of the Saturn was not injured.

Police reported the roadway was closed for an extended period while the crash was investigated and cleared.
