KENNETT SQUARE, PA — A Kennett Square man faces multiple charges after police said they discovered counterfeit inspection and emissions decals during a traffic stop Saturday.

According to the Kennett Square Police Department, officers stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of South Garfield Street at approximately 11:24 a.m. on June 13 after observing what they believed were counterfeit Pennsylvania inspection and emissions certification decals.

Police reported that the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as 62-year-old Mario Torres of Kennett Square.

According to investigators, officers recognized Torres from a previous traffic stop in April involving the same alleged offense.

Police allege that Torres acknowledged the inspection decals were counterfeit and stated he obtained them because the vehicle would not pass inspection.

Authorities reported that Torres was taken into custody, processed, and later released pending the issuance of a summons.

Court records show charges were filed in District Court 15-3-04. Police said Torres is charged with possession of documents knowing them to have been altered, forged, or counterfeited; unlawful use of a certificate of inspection; displaying a fictitious, stolen, or improperly issued inspection certificate; and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection.
