WILMINGTON, DE — Local authorities have apprehended a 30-year-old man following a traffic stop investigation that led to the discovery of controlled substances. The Wilmington Police Department confirmed the arrest of Oliver Cephus after he fled from officers in the 1200 block of North King Street on the evening of April 25, 2025.
The incident began when members of the Special Operations Division Traffic Unit observed a vehicle committing several traffic violations around 5:45 p.m. Police report that an attempt was made to stop the vehicle, but the driver disregarded the signal and fled the scene. Shortly after, the vehicle was found in the 300 block of East 16th Street, where officers apprehended the suspect without further incident.
Upon investigation, authorities recovered 174 grams of marijuana and 0.51 grams of fentanyl. Based on these findings, Cephus was charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of “Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver” and “Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal,” in addition to traffic violations linked to the initial stop.
Cephus was subsequently arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11. He is currently being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $25,000 cash-only bail.
A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
