Parking Dispute Erupts Into Armed Threats, Police Say

CLAYMONT, DE — A 24-year-old Claymont man faces multiple felony charges after police alleged he threatened several people with a knife and a concealed handgun during a dispute over parking at an apartment complex.

New Castle County police responded at approximately 10 a.m. July 18 to the Whitney Gardens apartment community in the 700 block of Naamans Road following reports of a disorderly person armed with multiple weapons.

After receiving a description of the suspect, responding officers located Michael Bailey, 24, and detained him without incident, according to police. Officers reported recovering a knife from his person.

Investigators determined that Bailey had allegedly become involved in a parking dispute with several people at the complex. During the confrontation, police allege Bailey threatened the victims with the knife, displayed a firearm concealed in his waistband and threatened to shoot them.

Following Bailey’s arrest, detectives executed a search warrant at his residence and reported recovering two 9mm handguns, multiple ammunition magazines and additional ammunition.

Bailey was charged with six felony counts of aggravated menacing, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, disorderly conduct and terroristic threatening.

Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Bailey was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $27,100 secured bail, according to police.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
