HARRISBURG, PA — A Luzerne County mother and grandmother were sentenced Wednesday to lengthy state prison terms after pleading guilty to charges stemming from the repeated beating, restraint and starvation of an 11-year-old girl, according to Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday.
Amanda Gregorio, the child’s mother, received a sentence of 10 to 40 years in prison.
Gregorio had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, false imprisonment, unlawful restraint and conspiracy to endanger the welfare of a child.
Stacey Louder, the child’s grandmother, was sentenced to eight to 30 years in prison.
Louder previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, unlawful restraint and conspiracy to endanger the welfare of a child.
Prosecutors told the court that the girl was repeatedly abused inside the home and deprived of adequate food. At sentencing, investigators and prosecutors described the circumstances as a “travesty” and argued that the child had been failed by both her mother and grandmother.
“This home was supposed to be a safe haven for this child, but instead, the defendants turned it into a house of horrors,” Sunday stated. He credited the court with recognizing the severity of the abuse and the lasting trauma inflicted on the girl.
The abuse came to light in August 2024 after emergency medical personnel responded to a report that a child was experiencing a seizure at the home.
Medical professionals discovered bruising across the girl’s body, signs of additional abuse and evidence that she was malnourished, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
Deputy Attorneys General Rachael Coleman and Mary Phillips prosecuted the cases.
