WILMINGTON, DE — Two men were arrested after Wilmington police responded to a reported burglary in progress at a vacant residence, where officers allege one suspect fled on foot after being caught removing copper piping.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:05 a.m. July 23 to the 200 block of West 26th Street for a report of a burglary in progress.
Police reported that responding officers observed Robert Chandler, 38, allegedly removing copper piping from a residence. When officers attempted to make contact, Chandler allegedly fled on foot before being taken into custody following a brief pursuit.
Investigators also located a second suspect, Jason Miles, 53, who was taken into custody without incident. Police said Miles was wanted on multiple unrelated matters.
Chandler was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools, second-degree conspiracy, criminal mischief over $1,000 and resisting arrest. Following his arraignment in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $10,000 cash-only bail.
Miles was charged with third-degree burglary, second-degree conspiracy and criminal mischief over $1,000. Following his arraignment in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $5,000 cash-only bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
