UPPER MERION TWP, PA — Drivers who rely on southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) should prepare for a long-term shutdown beginning Wednesday, February 25, as PennDOT launches Stage 2 of a major sinkhole remediation project.

Southbound U.S. 202 will be closed around the clock between Prince Frederick Boulevard/Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road through late fall 2026. The extended closure is part of a $22.4 million project aimed at stabilizing the roadway after recurring sinkholes caused repeated emergency repairs and traffic disruptions.

During the closure, drivers will be directed to use Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road to reconnect with U.S. 202. Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

PennDOT previously reopened northbound U.S. 202 between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard in November 2025 following eight months of Stage 1 repairs.

The current phase will involve drilling through the pavement and injecting pressurized grout beneath the roadway to fill underground voids and reduce the risk of future sinkholes. Additional drainage improvements and pavement reconstruction are also planned.
