PHILADELPHIA, PA — Executive search firm True has launched a dedicated Real Estate & PropTech Practice, formalizing an expansion into a sector where technology companies, institutional investors and traditional real estate operators are increasingly competing for the same executive talent.
The new practice, led by New York-based Partner Grant Beighley within True’s Financial Services Practice, consolidates the firm’s recruiting work across property technology companies, investment managers, brokerages and real estate owners as demand for leadership with both technology and industry expertise grows.
The move reflects continued convergence between the real estate and technology sectors, where digital platforms are playing a larger role in how properties are bought, financed, managed and operated.
True reported conducting more than 1,000 executive conversations and tracking over 10,000 compensation data points across the real estate and PropTech sectors during the past year. The company uses that data to advise clients on executive recruiting, compensation trends and leadership planning.
The practice serves organizations ranging from venture-backed PropTech companies and digital transaction platforms to institutional asset managers, private equity real estate portfolios and residential brokerages.
Sam McGrath, global general manager of True Search, indicated the firm’s decision reflects changes in the executive talent market as industry boundaries continue to narrow.
“Real estate has become one of the clearest examples of industry convergence,” McGrath stated. “Investors, operators, and technology companies are solving many of the same problems, and they’re increasingly competing for the same leadership talent.”
True’s work in the sector began with recruiting assignments for property technology companies before expanding into institutional investors, owner-operators and asset managers. The firm cited work for Apollo’s real estate business and Mark Spain Real Estate among its experience in the market.
Beighley noted that technology and physical real estate businesses have become increasingly interconnected, requiring executive search firms to recruit across both industries.
“The boundary between technology and physical real estate is increasingly dissolving,” Beighley stated. “Most search firms in this space operate on one side of that equation, either digital platforms or traditional real estate. True has built the track record and the network to operate credibly across both.”
