PHILADELPHIA, PA — True hired former USTA executive Michael McGoohan as managing director within its CEO, board, and consumer practices, expanding the firm’s focus on executive recruitment tied to operational turnarounds and growth-stage consumer businesses.
McGoohan most recently served as chief growth officer at the USTA, where he oversaw participation and commercial initiatives tied to the organization’s broader modernization strategy for tennis operations and consumer engagement.
The appointment reflects increasing demand among boards, private equity firms, and investors for executives with operational experience navigating restructuring, direct-to-consumer expansion, and growth transformation across consumer-facing businesses.
Before joining the USTA, McGoohan served as president of Solo Stove and chief growth officer at Solo Brands, where he worked on product expansion and omnichannel retail growth strategies.
Earlier leadership roles included positions at Mondelēz International, Central Garden & Pet, and Performance Health.
Executive search firms have increasingly recruited former operators rather than career recruiters as clients seek advisers with direct experience managing growth slowdowns, operational restructuring, and investor pressure.
“Clients today aren’t just looking for great operators; they need leaders who can translate strategy into sustained commercial performance,” McGoohan said.
True indicated McGoohan will advise boards, investors, and management teams on recruiting chief executives, presidents, directors, and senior commercial leadership roles across consumer and sports-related industries.
The company has expanded its emphasis on data analytics and artificial intelligence tools within executive recruiting as competition intensifies among firms serving private equity-backed and transformation-focused clients.
