NEWARK, DE — A 17-year-old Bear resident was killed Saturday night after a two-vehicle crash in Newark, according to Delaware State Police.
Police reported the collision occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. July 18 on Stanton Christiana Road near Old Stanton Christiana Road.
According to the preliminary investigation, a Toyota Camry was traveling southwest on Stanton Christiana Road while negotiating a curve as a Toyota Sienna was traveling northeast in the center lane. Investigators allege the Camry lost control, crossed into the Sienna’s path and collided with the front of the minivan on the passenger side of the Camry.
State police said the Camry’s driver, a 17-year-old boy from Bear, was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. Authorities are withholding his identity until his family is notified.
The driver of the Toyota Sienna, a 46-year-old woman from Middletown, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Authorities closed Stanton Christiana Road for approximately three hours while investigators processed the scene and cleared the roadway.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has related video is asked to contact Sgt. J.
