NEWARK, DE — The Sallie Mae Fund committed an additional $50,000 to Folds of Honor as education providers and nonprofit groups continue expanding financial support programs for military families facing rising higher education costs.
The contribution, made in recognition of Military Appreciation Month, will fund scholarships for spouses and children of fallen or disabled U.S. service members through the nonprofit organization’s education assistance programs.
The latest grant brings The Sallie Mae Fund’s total contributions to Folds of Honor since 2014 to $635,000, supporting more than 100 scholarships nationwide.
Folds of Honor provides educational funding for military families pursuing postsecondary education and training programs.
“Every scholarship we award is a direct result of organizations that believe, as we do, that children and spouses of our nation’s heroes deserve the chance to succeed,” regional impact officer Allen Wronowski said in a statement.
The announcement comes as colleges, lenders, and nonprofit organizations face growing pressure to address affordability challenges affecting military-connected students and veterans.
“Our mission is grounded in expanding access to higher education and supporting student success,” Sallie Mae Executive Vice President Nic Jafarieh said.
Sallie Mae said its support for military communities also includes volunteer programs and customer service teams dedicated to assisting military borrowers and their families.
The company said employees will volunteer this month at the Wilmington VA Medical Center as part of its Military Appreciation Month activities.
