PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — A woman and her children locked themselves inside a second-floor bathroom Monday afternoon while an alleged intruder entered their Plymouth Township home, according to police.
The Plymouth Township Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2900 block of Arch Road at approximately 1:45 p.m. Aug. 24 for a burglary reportedly in progress.
According to police, the homeowner remained on the phone with a township dispatcher and reported that an unknown man was banging on a side door and allegedly attempting to break into the residence. While officers were responding, the woman told the dispatcher that the man had gained entry and was inside her kitchen, police reported.
The woman and her children locked themselves inside an upstairs bathroom while awaiting officers, according to police.
Police reported that responding officers encountered Juan Medina as he was allegedly exiting the residence through a side door. Medina was taken into custody without incident, and no injuries were reported.
According to investigators, Medina was allegedly found in possession of property belonging to at least one other residence in the 3000 block of Arch Road. Police are asking area residents to review surveillance footage and contact the Plymouth Township Police Department with any additional information.
Medina is charged with first-degree felony burglary, second-degree felony criminal trespass, second-degree misdemeanor criminal mischief, and third-degree misdemeanor counts of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and theft from a motor vehicle.
Police reported that District Judge Patrick Krouse arraigned Medina and set bail at $50,000 cash. Medina was committed to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after he was unable to post bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Sept. 8 before District Judge Jodi Griffis.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
