MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, PA — Drivers using northbound Route 222 at Route 30 should plan for delays during an upcoming weekend lane closure, while westbound Route 30 motorists heading onto Route 222 will face a temporary stop before merging.

Weather permitting, PennDOT will close the right lane of northbound Route 222 at the Route 30 interchange beginning Friday evening. The restriction is expected to remain in place for approximately 22 hours.
At the same time, westbound Route 30 traffic entering northbound Route 222 will encounter a temporary stop condition. Drivers will be required to come to a stop before merging onto Route 222.
Motorists should expect delays, plan extra travel time and use caution while approaching the interchange and moving through the work zone.
The weekend restrictions are part of the $72.2 million Route 222/Route 30 Interchange Improvement Project. J.D. Eckman Inc. of Atglen is the contractor.
The broader project includes reconstructing Route 222 for approximately one mile north of the interchange near Stoner Park and expanding the highway from four lanes to six lanes within the project limits.
Crews also are adding capacity to several interchange ramps. Improvements include a second lane on the southbound Route 222 ramp to westbound Route 30, a third lane connecting westbound Route 30 with northbound Route 222 and a second ramp lane from eastbound Route 30 to northbound Route 222.
Two bridges carrying Route 222 ramps over Route 30 also will be replaced, including widening the northbound Route 222 bridge to two lanes. Route 222 will be lowered beneath the existing Eden Road bridge to increase clearance.
