Roadwork Expands Across Three Counties as Resurfacing Begins

Traffic, flagging

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers in Bucks, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties should prepare for recurring daytime lane restrictions through early July as PennDOT begins high-friction resurfacing work on eight state highways.

  • Dates: Through Friday, July 3
  • Times: Generally 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Saturday (varies by location)

PennDOT said lane closures with flagging will occur on multiple roadways as crews install High-Friction Surface Treatment, a pavement treatment designed to improve tire grip and reduce skidding in both wet and dry driving conditions.

Among the locations affected are Old Forty Foot Road in Skippack and Towamencin townships through June 19; Almshouse Road in Bucks County from June 11 through June 19; Rushland Road and Bustleton Pike in Warwick and Northampton townships through late June; and State Road in Bensalem Township through June 26.

Additional restrictions are planned on westbound Route 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) in Philadelphia through June 26, Bethlehem Pike in Springfield Township through June 29, and Fitzwatertown Road in Abington Township through July 3.

No detours have been announced, but motorists should expect intermittent delays and slower travel through active work zones. Plan extra time, especially during daytime hours, and remain alert for flaggers directing traffic.

The work is part of a $2.7 million federally funded project to install high-friction pavement treatments on selected highways across southeastern Pennsylvania. PennDOT said the treatment is intended to improve roadway traction and enhance safety at locations where additional skid resistance is beneficial.

All scheduled work is weather dependent.
