SOUTHAMPTON, PA — Quaint Oak Bank is funding an eight-week garden education program at Roosevelt Elementary School in Philadelphia through a sponsorship with Greener Partners, extending the nonprofit’s food and STEM education work to students through hands-on instruction outside the classroom.
The sponsorship will support Greener Partners’ Healthy Schools Project, which uses school gardens to teach students about gardening, nutrition and food systems.
Students at Roosevelt Elementary will participate in lessons covering planting, harvesting, seasonal eating and nutrition. The program combines STEM instruction with opportunities for students to grow and prepare fresh produce.
The initiative also supports continued development of the school’s community garden.
“Through our garden program, students develop a deeper understanding of where food comes from while building skills in science, teamwork, and environmental stewardship,” Eileen Lynn, a STEM teacher at Roosevelt Elementary, stated.
Greener Partners works with schools, educators, students and families across southeastern Pennsylvania to expand access to food education, urban farming and fresh-food resources. Its Healthy Schools Project combines garden-based education with initiatives aimed at increasing access to fresh food within school communities.
The sponsorship amount was not provided.
Quaint Oak Chief Executive Officer Robert T. Strong described the investment as part of the bank’s support for education and community development.
“Educational programs that encourage hands-on learning and community engagement create lasting benefits,” Strong stated.
