PathFinder Raises Angel Funding to Expand AI Sports Hardware

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Sports technology startup PathFinder has secured a multi-million-dollar angel financing led by Jinqiu Capital, providing capital to expand manufacturing, accelerate product development and prepare for a global crowdfunding campaign for its first artificial intelligence-powered golf training device.

The company, founded in 2024 by graduates of the University of Pennsylvania’s GRASP Lab, stated the financing will support commercialization of BirdieSense, an AI-powered coaching device designed for golfers.

PathFinder did not disclose the size of the investment beyond describing it as a multi-million-dollar round.

BirdieSense uses RGB cameras and proprietary machine-learning software to reconstruct golf ball flight, analyze swing mechanics and deliver real-time coaching feedback without relying on radar-based launch monitors or simulator systems.

Chief Executive Officer Steve Yi Chen said the company’s objective is to move beyond performance measurement by offering actionable coaching recommendations.

“Most sports technology today stops at recording or analysis,” Chen stated.

The company said its system continuously analyzes user performance to identify patterns and provide personalized training guidance over time.

PathFinder reported receiving early interest from golf coaches, training facilities and other participants in the golf industry as it prepares a broader commercial rollout. The company plans to launch pre-sales of BirdieSense in mid-July 2026 and intends to exhibit the product at the 2027 PGA Show.

Beyond golf, PathFinder said it plans to adapt its AI training platform for other sports, including tennis and baseball.

The funding comes as sports technology companies increasingly seek to apply artificial intelligence and computer vision to coaching and player development, expanding beyond traditional performance-tracking hardware into software-driven training systems.
