AUDUBON, PA — NetCarrier has appointed telecommunications executive Doug Derstine as president and chief executive officer, a leadership change that positions the cloud communications provider for its next phase of growth in managed services, channel partnerships and AI-enabled business communications.
Derstine succeeds Brook Lenfest in the chief executive role. Lenfest will remain chairman of the board but will step away from day-to-day management responsibilities, according to the company.
The transition comes as communications providers increasingly invest in artificial intelligence, automation and cloud-based services to differentiate themselves in a competitive market.
Derstine brings more than 25 years of experience in telecommunications and technology infrastructure businesses. Most recently, he served as chief executive officer and a board member of WANRack, where he oversaw growth and operational expansion initiatives.
Earlier in his career, Derstine served as chief operating officer of FirstLight Fiber and held multiple executive leadership roles at Windstream and PAETEC, managing sales, operations, managed services and wholesale business units.
“My time has been divided among multiple business and philanthropic demands leading to the decision to find a new leader for NetCarrier,” Lenfest said. He added that Derstine has “a proven track record of growing companies.”
The appointment signals NetCarrier’s focus on scaling operations and expanding its position in cloud communications and business technology services.
“I’m excited to join NetCarrier at such an important point in the company’s evolution,” Derstine said. He cited opportunities in cloud communications, managed services, AI-enabled automation and customer engagement technologies.
NetCarrier said it plans to continue investing in cloud communications, AI-powered voice automation, managed services and channel development under Derstine’s leadership.
Leadership transitions remain a common feature of growth-stage technology and communications companies as they seek executives with experience scaling operations and integrating new technologies into established business models.
The company did not disclose any changes to ownership, governance structure or strategic financial objectives as part of the leadership transition.
