PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers in South Philadelphia should prepare for a long-term detour and recurring delays after bridge repairs closed the Morris Street ramp to southbound Interstate 95 through early October.

The ramp will remain closed continuously throughout the construction period. Drivers will be directed to use Water Street, Tasker Street, Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Oregon Avenue and Front Street to reach southbound I-95.
Motorists should plan extra time when traveling near the closure or along the detour route because backups and delays are expected. Seek alternate routes when practical, particularly during peak commuting periods.
The restriction is part of a $60.4 million federally funded project addressing high-priority repairs on interstate bridges throughout the Philadelphia region.
Crews will repair deteriorated bridge decks, structural steel, weld cracks, concrete beams, railings, guiderail and steel sign supports. The project also includes replacing or sealing expansion joints and repairing portions of the bridge substructures.
Additional work will involve repairing concrete supports and bridge bearings, cleaning bridge seats, removing debris, repainting overhead sign structures and upgrading roadway lighting with LED fixtures.
