Major Ridge Pike Disruption Sparks Questions as $26.2M Road Project Moves Forward

Traffic Advisory

LOWER PROVIDENCE TWP, PA — Motorists traveling through one of Montgomery County’s busiest corridors should prepare for delays next week as a major construction project temporarily reduces Ridge Pike to a single lane, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced.

On Monday, November 24, and Tuesday, November 25, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Ridge Pike will be restricted to one lane with flagging between Germantown Pike and Crosskeys Road. PennDOT is urging drivers to allow extra time, warning that significant backups are likely. All work is weather dependent.

The restriction is part of a $26.2 million federally funded overhaul designed to improve safety and traffic flow at and around the Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike intersection. The project includes constructing a new signalized intersection 1,300 feet east of the existing location and building a new Germantown Pike connector road to link Germantown Pike with Ridge Pike. That connector will also extend southwest to Pechins Mill Road.

Plans also call for a new roundabout at the northern end of the Germantown Pike connector, where River Road will tie into the system. Additional work includes widening portions of Ridge Pike, adding turn lanes at the new intersection, and upgrading stormwater drainage.
