PHILADELPHIA, PA — Cordish Gaming Group has appointed Jason Birney executive vice president and general manager of Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, placing a veteran gaming executive in charge of operations at one of the region’s largest casino and entertainment properties.
Birney will oversee the property’s day-to-day operations, including casino gaming, hotel operations, food and beverage, marketing and guest services, the company reported.
The leadership change brings more than two decades of gaming industry experience to the South Philadelphia property. Birney most recently led interactive operations at Penn Entertainment, where he oversaw the company’s online gaming and sports betting portfolio, including ESPN BET, Hollywood Casino and theScore products.
Before that role, Birney served as vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino Columbus and previously held executive leadership positions at Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway, Hollywood Casino Columbus and Hollywood Casino Toledo during nearly 17 years with Penn Entertainment.
Joe Billhimer, chief operating and development officer for Cordish Gaming Group, cited Birney’s operational leadership experience and familiarity with the Philadelphia market in announcing the appointment.
Birney began his gaming career with Caesars Entertainment, serving in marketing roles at Harrah’s and Showboat in Atlantic City and Harrah’s Philadelphia. He was recognized by Global Gaming Business magazine as one of its “40 Under 40” emerging gaming leaders in 2018.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida Southern College and a Master of Business Administration from Rutgers University.
