MIDDLETOWN TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that construction efforts are continuing on the $10.6 million project aimed at addressing traffic congestion and enhancing safety at key intersections on Langhorne-Yardley Road in Bucks County.
From Thursday, May 1, through Friday, June 13, lane closures will occur on Langhorne-Yardley Road between Bridgetown Pike and Briggs Road. These closures, in effect from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on weekdays, are expected to cause delays. Motorists are advised to plan extra travel time when navigating the area.
This significant infrastructure project involves the construction of a single-lane roundabout at the current signalized T-intersection at Langhorne-Yardley Road and Bridgetown Pike, as well as upgrades to the intersection at Langhorne-Yardley Road and Woodbourne Road. Enhancements include realigning the northern leg of Woodbourne Road, adding auxiliary turn lanes, and expanding the eastern leg of Woodbourne Road to accommodate turning movements.
The roundabout is designed to reduce vehicular speeds and improve safety, while the overall project includes extensive updates such as resurfacing, upgraded traffic signals, stormwater management systems, ADA-compliant curb ramps, and improved lighting and signage. Specific measures to improve pedestrian and bicycle mobility, such as paved paths, five-foot-wide shoulders, and Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), are being implemented to encourage multimodal accessibility.
Once the roundabout construction commences, motorists will be diverted onto an established detour route.
James D. Morrissey, Inc., based in Philadelphia, is overseeing the construction, with funding provided through an 80 percent federal and 20 percent state contribution model.
PennDOT advises drivers to remain cautious near the work zones for their safety and the safety of the construction crews.
