HARRISBURG, PA — Pre-K students from across Pennsylvania gathered for a festive Easter Egg Hunt at the Governor’s Residence on Wednesday, as Governor Josh Shapiro and First Lady Lori Shapiro hosted the annual celebration focused on early childhood education.

The 2026 event, the fourth hosted by the Shapiros, welcomed children, parents, educators, and advocates for a morning of activities that combined fun with a focus on learning. Young participants explored the grounds during the egg hunt while also enjoying a photo station with the Easter Bunny, a craft table, a reading corner hosted by the Pennsylvania State Library, and a live animal exhibit featuring baby goats.

The atmosphere was lively and family-friendly, with children engaging in hands-on activities while families and educators connected around a shared commitment to supporting early learning opportunities across the Commonwealth.

The event was held in partnership with Pre-K for PA and served as an opportunity to highlight the importance of accessible, high-quality early childhood education programs. Leaders used the gathering to emphasize ongoing efforts to expand resources for families and strengthen the early education workforce.

“Every child in Pennsylvania deserves the freedom to chart their own course and the opportunity to succeed,” Governor Shapiro said, emphasizing the role of early learning in building strong futures.

Organizers credited the success of the event to the collaboration between the Governor’s Office, Pre-K for PA, the Pennsylvania State Library, and community partners including Real Batz Farm, which provided the live animal exhibit. Educators, staff, and volunteers were also recognized for helping create a welcoming and engaging experience for children and families.

With continued focus on early childhood initiatives, state leaders said events like the annual Easter Egg Hunt will remain an important way to engage families while advancing support for young learners across Pennsylvania.
