NEWARK, DE — ImageKit has added native video playback and analytics to its media platform, extending its infrastructure from managing and delivering digital assets into viewer engagement, performance monitoring and commerce as businesses increasingly incorporate video directly into their digital products.
The company’s new Video Player and Analytics offering combines playback, streaming, branding and first-party performance measurement with ImageKit’s existing Video API and digital asset management technology. The move is designed to reduce the need for customers to combine separate video players, delivery infrastructure and analytics products.
ImageKit is also adding commerce capabilities. Businesses can place product sidebars, timed highlights and clickable hotspots within videos, allowing viewers to interact with products and take actions without leaving the page.
The player supports HLS and MPEG-DASH adaptive streaming and operates across the same infrastructure as ImageKit’s existing media-delivery services, which the company reports spans more than 700 content-delivery network nodes and seven processing regions worldwide.
Integrated analytics track more than 20 measures covering engagement, playback quality and errors. Customers can monitor views, unique viewers and total play time alongside technical measures including startup time, page-load time, seek latency and rebuffering.
ImageKit collects the performance information directly through its player as first-party data. According to the company, the system does not require third-party analytics integrations, cookies or personally identifiable information by default.
“By connecting engagement data with playback and quality signals, teams can understand where the experience succeeds or falls short,” Chief Technology Officer Manu Chaudhary stated.
The analytics tools can segment information by viewer, device, geography, individual video and playback characteristics. Customers can also attach custom dimensions including product IDs, content categories, subscription tiers and A/B testing groups.
Automatic error reporting captures the code, message and context associated with playback failures, allowing development teams to trace technical problems affecting individual viewing sessions.
Artificial intelligence is also being incorporated into content presentation. ImageKit can automatically generate subtitles in more than 100 languages and detect chapters within videos, while customers retain the ability to create chapters manually using timestamps.
Other additions include configurable playlists and related-video recommendations, giving businesses control over which content viewers encounter next rather than relying on recommendations supplied by an outside video platform.
A floating-player option allows video to continue playing as a user moves through a webpage, while seek-bar thumbnails provide previews of different points in a video. Customers can also apply their own logos and destination links to the player.
The release broadens ImageKit’s product stack beyond media storage, management and delivery. Its existing products include Creative Automation, AI-assisted digital asset management and unified image and video APIs.
“Video is becoming the way businesses teach, sell, and support, and the teams doing it best treat video as part of their product, not an afterthought,” Chief Executive Officer Rahul Nanwani stated.
With Video Player and Analytics, ImageKit is seeking to consolidate more of that workflow onto a single platform, giving customers control over the underlying media asset, its delivery and presentation, and the performance data generated after viewers press play.
