PHILADELPHIA, PA — Overnight lane closures will affect Interstate 95 in South Philadelphia for five consecutive nights as crews complete line striping and install construction barriers, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

PennDOT advised motorists to plan extra travel time because backups and delays are expected through the work zone. Drivers may also want to seek alternate routes, particularly during the early portion of each nightly closure.
The schedule is weather dependent and may be changed or postponed if conditions prevent crews from working safely.
The overnight operations are part of a $60.4 million project addressing high-priority repairs on interstate bridges throughout the Philadelphia region. The federally funded project is intended to maintain the safety, mobility and structural functionality of bridges along major transportation corridors.
Planned work under the broader contract includes repairs to deteriorated bridge decks, structural steel, concrete beams, railings, guiderails, sign supports, bearings and portions of bridge substructures. Crews will also replace or seal expansion joints, clean and repaint overhead steel sign structures, remove debris beneath bridges and upgrade roadway lighting with LED fixtures.
IEW Construction Group Inc. of Hamilton, New Jersey, is the project’s general contractor.
