PHILADELPHIA, PA — Drivers using Interstate 95 near the Girard Point Bridge should prepare for overnight lane closures beginning Saturday, July 25, as crews install barriers for a long-term bridge rehabilitation project in Southwest Philadelphia. Plan extra time and expect delays through the work zone.

A right-lane closure will affect southbound I-95 between Broad Street (Route 611) and Enterprise Avenue from midnight to 8:00 a.m. Saturday.
From Monday through Wednesday nights, the left lane of northbound I-95 will close between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611). A right-lane closure will be in place during the same hours on southbound I-95 between Broad Street and Enterprise Avenue.
The barriers will establish a long-term construction pattern designed to maintain three travel lanes during peak periods. Additional off-peak and weekend restrictions are expected as work continues.
The southbound I-95 ramp to Enterprise Avenue and Island Avenue at Exit 15 will remain closed through 2027.
Drivers seeking Exit 15 will be directed to use the Bartram Avenue and Essington Avenue off-ramp at Exit 14. Motorists should follow Bartram Avenue, turn left onto Island Avenue and then turn left onto Enterprise Avenue.
The closures are part of a $261.5 million project to rehabilitate the 5,183-foot, double-deck Girard Point Bridge and nine approach structures between Enterprise Avenue and Broad Street.
Planned improvements include repairs to the bridge decks, expansion joints, barriers, steel and concrete components, lighting and drainage systems. Crews will also protect a bridge pier in the Schuylkill River and upgrade traffic-management equipment along I-95.
South State Inc., of Bridgeton, New Jersey, is the general contractor. The project is financed with 90% federal and 10% state funds.
All scheduled work is weather dependent. Drivers should reduce speed, watch for changing traffic patterns and seek alternate routes when practical.
