FS Launches 800G Optical Modules for AI Network Expansion

FS

NEW CASTLE, DE — FS has introduced 800G coherent optical modules designed to increase network capacity for artificial intelligence and cloud computing workloads as data traffic between data centers continues to accelerate.

The company announced its 800G OSFP/QSFP-DD ZR/ZR+ coherent optical module platform, targeting AI scale-across architectures and data center interconnect (DCI) networks that require higher bandwidth and longer-distance optical transmission.

Demand for optical networking equipment has grown alongside investment in AI infrastructure, as operators seek to move increasing volumes of data between geographically distributed computing facilities without expanding fiber footprints.

FS said the modules support transmission speeds of up to 800 gigabits per second over distances of approximately 120 kilometers and 500 kilometers on single-mode fiber using coherent optical technology powered by a 5-nanometer Marvell digital signal processor.

The modules support both C-band and L-band optical transmission, allowing network operators to increase fiber utilization and expand available capacity for AI and cloud workloads.

The products also comply with OSFP and QSFP-DD Multi-Source Agreement standards, as well as 800ZR, OpenZR+ and Optical Internetworking Forum specifications, enabling deployment in multi-vendor networking environments.

Support for CMIS and C-CMIS management standards allows operators to monitor module performance, receive alarms and manage optical links through standardized interfaces.

Kyrie Zhang, senior technical director at FS, indicated the product was developed to address increasing demand for scalable optical transport as AI computing expands across multiple data centers.

“The growth of AI and DCI traffic is driving greater demand for scalable and efficient optical transport,” Zhang stated. “FS 800G coherent modules are designed to help customers simplify network expansion and scale network capacity more efficiently.”

FS said it plans to continue expanding its coherent optical networking portfolio to address future demand for higher-capacity data center interconnect and long-haul optical transmission.
