PHILADELPHIA, PA — Comcast Business (Nasdaq: CMCSA) is moving enterprise network ordering deeper into software-based infrastructure through a collaboration with Equinix, aiming to cut last-mile Ethernet delivery from weeks to days as cloud and artificial intelligence deployments accelerate.
The companies are integrating Comcast Business connectivity into Equinix Fabric, allowing eligible enterprise customers to check service availability, obtain pricing and order last-mile connections through standards-based application programming interfaces rather than relying on manual ordering processes.
The initial phase will cover Comcast Business Ethernet connections between eligible enterprise locations and infrastructure accessible through Equinix Fabric. Comcast will provision the connections, while the companies test the approach with enterprise customers in live environments.
The integration addresses a gap between the speed of deploying computing infrastructure and the time required to connect it to offices, campuses, stores and users. Cloud infrastructure, AI platforms and applications can be deployed through software in minutes, while last-mile connectivity across much of the industry can still require manual ordering and take weeks, according to Comcast.
“For decades, connectivity has been essential to enterprise transformation, but the way it is ordered and delivered has not evolved as quickly as the infrastructure it supports,” Comcast Business Chief Product Officer Bob Victor said.
Comcast Business already connects customers to more than 700 data centers nationwide and provides services including cross connects, cloud on-ramps and data center interconnection.
Equinix Fabric operates across more than 240 data centers in 66 markets and provides software-defined connections among distributed infrastructure and cloud environments. The Comcast integration is designed to extend that digital ordering model beyond the data center to enterprise locations.
“With Comcast Business last-mile connectivity integrated into Equinix Fabric, customers will be able to extend their Fabric network to more enterprise locations through the same digital experience they already use to connect their distributed infrastructure,” Equinix Senior Vice President of Interconnection Products and Services Karthik Ramaswamy said.
Comcast is delivering the integration through its digital orchestration platform using APIs aligned with the Mplify Lifecycle Service Orchestration framework, formerly known as MEF. Using an industry standard rather than a proprietary Comcast specification is intended to allow participating platforms to connect through interfaces already used elsewhere in the telecommunications industry.
The Equinix project follows a separate Comcast Business Innovation Lab program with Colt Technology Services focused on cross-carrier API interoperability. Together, the projects extend Comcast’s effort to automate how enterprise connectivity is discovered, priced, ordered and deployed across partner platforms.
Comcast and Equinix plan to use the initial Ethernet deployment to validate the model before potentially extending it to optical wavelengths, cloud connectivity and cybersecurity services.
Comcast launched its Business Innovation Lab in April 2026 to develop and test enterprise technology with customers and technology providers before moving successful programs toward commercial deployment.
