Brace for Weeks of Night Disruptions on I-476 Corridor

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Drivers along Interstate 476 should brace for recurring overnight lane and ramp closures over the next several weeks as multiple improvement projects move forward across the corridor.

  • Dates: Monday, April 27, through Friday, May 15 (select nights extend to May 4)
  • Times: 8:00 PM – 5:00 AM (weeknights and select nights)
  • Reason: Bridge repair, utility work, and traffic system upgrades

Lane closures will affect ramp roadways connecting I-476 and U.S. 1 (Media Bypass) at the Exit 5 Interchange in Marple Township throughout the work period.

Additional overnight restrictions are scheduled Thursday, April 30, and Friday, May 1, along I-476 between the U.S. 1 (Exit 5) and Media/Swarthmore (Exit 3) interchanges in Nether Providence and Springfield townships, as well as between Route 3 (Exit 9) and U.S. 1 (Exit 5) in Marple Township.

Drivers will also encounter closures Sunday, May 3, and Monday, May 4, on the ramp from southbound I-95 to northbound I-476 in Ridley Park Borough and Ridley Township.

Motorists should expect significant backups and slow-moving traffic across the corridor during overnight hours. Plan extra time and consider alternate routes, especially when traveling through interchange areas.

The work includes bridge repairs as part of a $63.7 million improvement project, along with installation of Variable Speed Limit and Queue Warning systems designed to better manage congestion and improve safety.
