KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — BLOCS is on track to raise $250 million for need-based scholarships, a record fundraising total expected to support more than 43,000 Pennsylvania students during the coming school year.
The King of Prussia-based nonprofit administers scholarships through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit programs.
BLOCS indicated the projected student count would be the largest served in a single academic year during its more than four decades of operation.
The organization works with more than 150 corporate donors, thousands of individual contributors and hundreds of participating schools.
“BLOCS is proud to reach this milestone of serving over 43,000 students in the coming year,” Chief Executive Officer Rob Delany stated. “We are incredibly grateful to our more than 150 corporate donors, thousands of individual donors, and hundreds of school partners.”
The tax-credit programs allow eligible businesses to receive state tax credits for contributions to approved scholarship organizations, which then distribute aid to qualifying students.
BLOCS reported that more than 98 cents of every dollar contributed is directed to need-based scholarships, though the organization did not provide a breakdown of projected award sizes or the number of participating schools expected to receive funding during the coming year.
The $250 million target marks a substantial expansion in the organization’s scholarship activity and underscores the scale of private-school aid flowing through Pennsylvania’s tax-credit system.
