HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Game Commission announced the appointment of two accomplished professionals to key leadership roles, signaling continued strategic focus on wildlife management and operational efficiency. Timothy Haydt has stepped into the position of Director of the Bureau of Wildlife Habitat Management, while Eric Allen now serves as Director of the Bureau of Administration. Both started their new roles in November and bring extensive experience tailored to their respective responsibilities.
Game Commission Executive Director Steve Smith voiced confidence in the new appointees. “Both Tim and Eric benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience they brought to their new jobs, and they’ve been demonstrating that in leading their respective bureaus,” said Smith. “They hit the ground running and haven’t looked back, and I look forward to working more with them for the betterment of Pennsylvania’s wildlife and hunting tradition.”
Strengthening Habitat Management
Timothy Haydt brings over two decades of experience in forestry and public land management to his new role. Having served the past six years with the Game Commission, first as Chief of the Public Lands Section and later as Chief of the Oil, Gas, and Minerals Division, Haydt has spearheaded comprehensive management plans for 311 state game lands and overseen crucial oil and gas negotiations.
Before joining the Game Commission, Haydt spent 17 years managing forest operations with the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. His expertise in habitat and forestry management is regarded as critical to the success of wildlife conservation efforts.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Bureau of Wildlife Habitat Management and to be a champion for wildlife across the Commonwealth,” Haydt remarked. “It has been a pleasure to work with the passionate staff at the Game Commission for the past six years, and I look forward to continuing to work toward promoting and protecting wildlife habitats for current and future generations.”
Operational Excellence and Administrative Leadership
Eric Allen brings nearly 15 years of high-level management experience at the state government level. Previously the Director of the Bureau of Publications within the Department of General Services, Allen’s expertise spans roles such as Director of Business Transformation for the Department of Environmental Protection and senior project manager for the Governor’s Office of Transformation, Innovation, Management, and Efficiency (GO-TIME). With a background in process optimization and business transformation, Allen is positioned to drive efficiency and modernize administrative operations within the Game Commission.
“I’m enjoying the opportunity to use all of my experience in leadership to help Game Commission improve processes and become as efficient as possible,” said Allen. His focus on operational improvements aligns with the Commission’s priorities for enhanced resource management and service delivery.
Looking Ahead
The appointments of Haydt and Allen signal the Game Commission’s commitment to ensuring that expertise and leadership are in place to meet the evolving challenges of wildlife conservation and administrative efficiency. Their combined focus on habitat restoration, wildlife preservation, and operational transformation supports Pennsylvania’s broader mission to safeguard its natural resources and uphold a strong hunting heritage.
Under this new leadership, the Game Commission is well-positioned to advance efforts that balance ecological conservation with sustainable practices, ensuring that Pennsylvania’s wildlife and outdoor traditions thrive for generations to come.
