PHILADELPHIA, PA — Two southeastern Pennsylvania personal care attendants have been charged with allegedly submitting nearly $1.5 million in false Medicaid claims for work that was not performed, according to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
Ashley Griffin, 27, and Yolanda Wright, 49, each face felony charges of Medicaid fraud, theft by deception and conspiracy.
According to investigators with the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Section, Griffin submitted more than 64,000 hours of purported personal care work between 2020 and 2023, resulting in approximately $1.2 million in Medicaid reimbursements.
The Attorney General’s Office alleges Griffin knowingly reported hours she had not worked. Investigators identified more than 1,000 days on which her submitted time entries exceeded 24 hours, including one day when she allegedly claimed 126 hours of work.
Griffin worked as a personal care attendant for agencies operating in Montgomery, Philadelphia, Delaware and Bucks counties, according to investigators.
Authorities reported that claims submitted under Griffin’s name decreased substantially after she was questioned about the alleged billing activity in September 2023.
Investigators allege Griffin then paid Wright to continue submitting false time entries under Wright’s name. Those claims resulted in more than $275,000 in additional Medicaid reimbursements, according to the Attorney General’s Office.
Senior Deputy Attorney General Susann Shore will prosecute the cases.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
