NEW LONDON, CT — The U.S. Postal Service will issue a commemorative Forever stamp Sept. 12 marking the 150th anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, extending the agency’s practice of recognizing U.S. military service institutions through special stamp releases.

USPS plans to unveil the stamp during a first-day-of-issue ceremony at 10 a.m. Eastern at the Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival at Custom House Pier in New London. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

Marc McCrery, USPS customer experience vice president, will serve as the dedicating official. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance at https://www.usps.com/uscoastguardstamp/.

The stamp pairs images of two Coast Guard vessels representing different aspects of the service.

One photograph depicts the USCGC Eagle, which has served as the Coast Guard Academy’s primary training vessel since 1946. The other features the USCGC Bertholf, a Legend-class national security cutter used for missions including maritime drug interdiction and border security.

USPS art director Antonio Alcalá designed the stamp using photographs provided by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The issue commemorates the Coast Guard Academy’s 150th anniversary and continues a postal tradition of recognizing the nation’s military service institutions.

The stamp and related philatelic products will be available through USPS at usps.com/shopstamps, by calling 844-737-7826, through USA Philatelic by mail and at Post Office locations nationwide. Additional information about stamps and first-day-of-issue ceremonies is available at stampsforever.com.
