WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Mint opened subscriptions Monday, Aug. 17, for its one-ounce Supergirl silver medal ahead of an Oct. 1 sales launch for three Supergirl-themed numismatic products, extending its Comic Art Coin and Medal Program through a licensing collaboration with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products.
The Supergirl release will be the fourth entry in the Mint’s Comic Art series. Orders for the coin and medals are scheduled to begin at noon Eastern on Oct. 1.
The lineup includes a one-ounce silver medal priced at $200, a 2.5-ounce silver medal priced at $400 and a half-ounce 24-karat gold proof coin whose price will be determined under the Mint’s pricing grid for precious-metal products.
The Mint set a 25,000-unit mintage limit for the 2.5-ounce medal and a 10,000-unit limit for the gold coin, while the one-ounce medal has no stated mintage cap. Each product will carry a household order limit of one during the first 24 hours of sales.
Customers enrolling in the one-ounce medal subscription can receive subsequent products in the series automatically until they cancel or the series ends. Subscriptions are initially limited to five medals per household, though the Mint noted that limit is subject to change.
The products use separate imagery on each side. The obverse depicts Supergirl flying above clouds with her cape behind her and was designed and sculpted by Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna.
The reverse, designed and sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill, depicts Supergirl with Krypto surrounded by a starburst. The silver medals carry the inscriptions “SUPERGIRL,” “BRAVERY LIFTS HER” and “GRACE GUIDES HER,” while the gold coin carries standard United States, denomination, weight and fineness inscriptions.
Each coin and medal will be encapsulated, packaged in a presentation case and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The gold coin and 2.5-ounce silver medal will include numbered certificates.
The Comic Art program adds licensed entertainment properties to the Mint’s broader numismatic business, which operates without taxpayer funding. The Mint also produces circulating coins, commemorative issues, Congressional Gold Medals and precious-metal bullion products.
