WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a voluntary recall by Church Brothers, LLC, commonly known as Church Brothers Farms, affecting 1,271 cases of green onions due to potential Salmonella contamination.

This action highlights significant public health concerns, as Salmonella can lead to severe and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, the risk of complications makes this recall a critical preventive measure.

The recall is limited to specific retail and foodservice customers within Canada and the United States, specifically targeting states including Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Virginia. The affected products include:

  • In Canada: Imperial Fresh – Green Onion Iceless 4x2lb Reg with Lot Code CB272378.
  • In the USA:
    • Church Brothers – Green Onions Iceless 4x2lb Reg Church Brothers Mexico with Lot Code CB272378,

This recall was prompted by a sample collected by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency that tested positive for Salmonella. Church Brothers Farms promptly informed the FDA following this discovery. To date, there have been no reported illnesses connected to the recalled products. The recall is confined to the specified items, and no other products from Church Brothers Farms are affected.

Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators for the recalled products and discard them immediately to prevent any potential health risks.
