WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Pentagon released 40 declassified and historical records on unidentified anomalous phenomena July 10, expanding a federal archive intended to support public and scientific review of unresolved sightings without offering evidence of extraterrestrial life.
The fourth release under the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters brought the government’s online collection to 334 records at war.gov/ufo.
The newly published material includes 14 historical documents, 19 military sensor videos, four audio files and three images. The files total 227 megabytes of documents and 1.4 gigabytes of video drawn from agencies including the Pentagon, NASA, the CIA, the FBI and the Department of Energy.
Officials emphasized that the release does not confirm extraterrestrial activity. The records instead cover cases in which available evidence was insufficient to determine the origin of the reported phenomena.
“The Department will release additional files on a rolling basis,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell stated, adding that federal agencies are preparing the next disclosure.
Among the historical records is a 1949 conference transcript documenting discussions among Manhattan Project scientists about unexplained green fireballs observed near the Los Alamos nuclear laboratory.
The release also includes a 1948 Air Materiel Command report from Project Sign, the Air Force’s early investigation into reports of flying discs. The document cataloged 100 sightings reported during 1947 and 1948 and examined whether some incidents could involve unconventional aircraft.
More recent records include a 2015 Department of Energy account of a security response at the Pantex nuclear weapons facility in Texas after personnel recorded and pursued an unidentified low-altitude object that reportedly changed speed and direction.
The archive also contains military infrared footage, including a 2020 recording described as showing a large, two-tiered object, and NASA imagery from the Space Shuttle Columbia mission in 1996.
The files remain available for review at war.gov/ufo.
