NEW YORK — Paramount Pictures and Warner Music Group (Nasdaq: WMG) announced a multi-year first-look agreement to develop theatrical films based on the lives and music of artists and songwriters affiliated with Warner Music.
The companies said the partnership will focus on projects involving both contemporary and legacy artists from Warner Music’s roster and catalog.
Warner Music and its production partner, Unigram, led by Amanda Ghost and Gregor Cameron, will collaborate with Paramount on project development in coordination with artists, songwriters, or their estates.
Robert Kyncl, chief executive officer of Warner Music Group, said the agreement is intended to expand storytelling opportunities tied to music catalogs and artist histories.
“Every artist deserves to tell the stories behind their life and music in their own creative way,” Kyncl said.
Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg, co-chairs of Paramount Pictures, said the companies plan to develop theatrical projects inspired by “generation-defining music and talent.”
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Warner Music Group owns labels including Atlantic Records, Elektra Records, Parlophone, Warner Records, and Rhino Records. Its publishing division, Warner Chappell Music, manages a catalog of more than one million copyrights.
Paramount, a subsidiary of Skydance Media, operates film, television, streaming, and media businesses including Paramount Pictures, CBS, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Paramount+, and Pluto TV.
