IRS Reminds Employers of Student Loan Repayment Benefit Through 2025

Internal Revenue Service (IRS)

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Internal Revenue Service is reminding businesses that they can continue offering tax-free student loan repayment assistance to employees through December 31, 2025.

The provision allows employers to contribute up to $5,250 annually per worker toward qualifying student loan debt without the amount being treated as taxable wages. First expanded under pandemic relief measures, the benefit is part of educational assistance programs that also cover tuition, books, and other education-related expenses.

The IRS encourages employers to review guidelines in Publication 15-B when establishing or managing such programs.
